Another look at Jenny Seagrove in Local Hero

We already glanced at Jenny Seagrove's participation in the 1983 movie Local Hero a while back (here), but the time has come to revisit it!

In 1983, Jenny Seagrove had a small role in the movie Local Hero. While the actress was not the focus of this fantastic film, she made a great impact nevertheless. Jenny Seagrove's time onscreen in Local Hero is quite limited but her youthful beauty is striking and her ease and natural ability is easily felt by the viewer. Local Hero is a great movie, masterfully crafted and supremely enjoyable, made only better by the presence of Jenny Seagrove.

Wow! Here is a fantastic magazine cover from 1989 featuring the lovely face of Jenny Seagrove!

Jenny Seagrove in A Woman of Substance (part 3)

In the third section of the 3 part miniseries A Woman of Substance, we get some closure to the story of Emma Harte. However, one feels that this particular section could have been longer as it feels a bit crammed with information and events. For instance, her romance with Barry Bostwick's character begins and ends very quickly, even though it happens over the course of many years. Some viewers of A Woman of Substance may have enjoyed the succinctness of this episode but I think I would have preferred it be split into two sections.

As for star Jenny Seagrove in the concluding episode, she does a great job playing a somewhat older Emma Harte. This time around she gets to show off some different hairstyles. The actress also does the best she can to work with actor Barry Bostwick, but for me he is miscast as her Australian lover and much of what he does onscreen borders on the bizarre.

Jenny Seagrove in A Woman of Substance (part 2)

The second section of the three part TV miniseries A Woman of Substance is fantastic fun. Jenny Seagrove again portrays the driven Emma Harte and shows how the formerly poor girl built a business empire from the ground up. Of course, lovely as she is, she has many male suitors ready to marry her on a moment's notice. This section also begins to display some of the more disturbing aspects about the character of Emma Harte, such as her blinding greed and her willful emotional neglect of her children. Jenny Seagrove handles her role here perfectly, looking absolutely lovely and giving her character the needed emotional depth.

Jenny Seagrove in A Woman of Substance (part 1)

A Woman of Substance is one of the best television miniseries of all time and this is due in no small part to the principal actress, Jenny Seagrove. She had only been acting on screen for two years but in 1984, Jenny Seagrove was more than ready to carry this project. She not only looked stunningly beautiful, she was able to convey a range of emotions. Jenny Seagrove's charm, lovely demeanor, unique voice and acting skills all came together into an excellent whole. Couple this with an excellent support cast and fine cinematography and you have great miniseries.

A Woman of Substance is a rags to riches story and, of course, it begins with the rage. Jenny Seagrove portrays Emma Harte, a young Yorkshire lass who works as a housemaid for the wealthy Fairley family. The first section of this three part miniseries deals with how young Emma comes to hate the Fairleys and establishes some of the relationships she will keep throughout her life.

Jenny Seagrove does a fantastic job here. Wonderful acting aside, she looks simply amazing and her intriguing looks dominate the screen. One can imagine this being broadcast in America back in late 1984, where so many were sure to be unfamiliar with her, and I am sure that the actress must have gained some admirers.
