Jenny Seagrove in The Betrothed

In 1989, Jenny Seagrove appeared in an Italian miniseries which was an adaptation of the oft-filmed novel The Betrothed (I promessi sposi). The project attracted a number of internationally famous actors including Burt Lancaster, Franco Nero, F. Murray Abraham, Helmut Berger, Fernando Rey and others, plus a musical score from Ennio Morricone.

This Italian-language television mini-series is fairly obscure, especially to Seagrove fans, and English subtitles don't seem to exist. However, there's always hope that something like this will be made available for viewers worldwide to enjoy.

In 1991, Jenny Seagrove co-starred alongside Roddy McDowall and Michael Beck in Deadly Game. The movie originally aired on the USA cable TV network in the summer of 1991 and also featured a host of other B-list actors including Mitch Ryan, Marc Singer, Soon-Tek Oh, Frederic Lehne and John Pleshette. Jenny Seagrove actually plays a major role in the campy thriller and it marked her final appearance on American television.

In 1985, Jenny Seagrove starred in In Like Flynn. The TV movie was a pilot for a proposed series, loosely based on the film Romancing the Stone. The project did not end up getting made into a weekly TV show but the pilot film still exists and stands a fine piece of campy mid-'80s entertainment.

Besides star Jenny Seagrove, In Like Flynn also featured a number of other semi-well known actors. The biggest name in the film would obviously be William Conrad, who was well known for his work on television. Veteran actors Eddie Albert, Robert Webber and Maury Chaykin also had roles in the project. Jenny Seagrove's 'leading man' was played by William Gray Espy, an actor who had only worked occasionally beginning in 1972. He gives a capable performance in In Like Flynn but one feels that perhaps his role could have been better cast.

Jeremy Brett plays Sherlock Holmes and Edward Hardwicke plays Dr. Watson, both to great effect. The fantastic Ronald Lacey is also featured, as well as British television veteran John Thaw.

Jenny Seagrove - pin-up girl?

This is a somewhat uncharacteristic photo of Jenny Seagrove. It looks a bit like a pin-up style image, hands above the hips and decked out in very fashionable late-'80s clothing. Very nice indeed!

In 1983, Jenny Seagrove had her first big feature film role in a movie called Nate and Hayes. In the UK, the movie was given the infinitely better title of Savage Islands. In 1990, Jenny Seagrove starred in The Guardian, a horror film directed by William Friedkin. The movie, which co-starred Dwier Brown and Carey Lowell, was another opportunity fpr Jenny Seagrove to establish herself as an American cinema star. The Guardian, however, was not a big hit at the time of it's release and Jenny Seagrove would never again reach for such large scale success in a feature film. The good news is that The Guardian has become a bit of cult classic in recent years, the internet playing a big part in making this possible (as has been the case for many such films that were not well received when they were originally released). Truthfully, it is certainly not the best movie ever, or even of it's type, but nonetheless it is certainly not a bad film either. The Guardian is actually quite fun and enjoyable, especially for those willing to watch it with an open mind and a positive attitude.
