Another look at Jenny Seagrove in Local Hero

We already glanced at Jenny Seagrove's participation in the 1983 movie Local Hero a while back (here), but the time has come to revisit it!

In 1983, Jenny Seagrove had a small role in the movie Local Hero. While the actress was not the focus of this fantastic film, she made a great impact nevertheless. Jenny Seagrove's time onscreen in Local Hero is quite limited but her youthful beauty is striking and her ease and natural ability is easily felt by the viewer. Local Hero is a great movie, masterfully crafted and supremely enjoyable, made only better by the presence of Jenny Seagrove.

Jenny Seagrove in Don't Go Breaking My Heart

In 1999, Jenny Seagrove co-starred with American actor Anthony Edwards in the romantic comedy Don't Go Breaking My Heart. Jenny Seagrove had not appeared on television or film since 1992, so this movie can be considered a comeback of sorts for her. Don't Go Breaking My Heart represents the beginning of the second era of Jenny Seagrove's screen career and she would go on to find success on TV in the 2000s.

Jenny Seagrove in A Chorus of Disapproval

In 1989, Jenny Seagrove co-starred in a large ensemble cast in the movie A Chorus of Disapproval, a film starring Jeremy Irons and Anthony Hopkins (amongst many others) about the people involved in a local theater production in a small town in Wales. The film was adapted from a play by Alan Ayckbourn and was directed by Michael Winner, who had directed Jenny Seagrove in Appointment with Death in 1988. Jenny Seagrove's character, Fay Hubbard, was quite different from the roles she had previously been associated with, as this character was a bit sleazy, a swinger and a liked to drink.

Jenny Seagrove in Local Hero

In 1983, Jenny Seagrove appeared in the well-received Local Hero, a film that earned seven BAFTA nominations that year (and won best direction for writer/director Bill Forsyth). Backing stars Peter Riegert, Burt Lancaster and Peter Capaldi, Jenny Seagrove portrays Marina in a smaller but very memorable role. This was a nice supporting role for her and later in 1983 she would take the female lead in another feature film, Nate and Hayes.

Jenny Seagrove in The Guardian

In 1990, Jenny Seagrove starred in The Guardian, a horror film about a young couple who unwittingly hire a pagan nanny. Director William Friedkin had gained fame with The Exorcist, one of the best known horror films of all time. A little over 15 years later, he decided to try his hand at the genre again and the result was The Guardian. I'll admit that I enjoyed the film but that does not seem to be the popular opinion. The movie did not fare very well with critics or box office patrons, leading star Jenny Seagrove to again abandon feature films (her previous attempt to launch a major motion picture career with 1983's Nate and Hayes had similarly failed).
